Why does our community need a new pool?

The current pool has reached the end of its useful life and is unable to be repaired further. A new pool will provide a safe, ADA-compliant and modern facility for residents of all ages. Having a community pool helps children learn how to swim, promotes recreation and community for people of all ages, provides employment opportunities and attracts families to live in Dike.

What will the new pool include?

The initial concept being considered utilizes the existing pool footprint and includes a zero-depth entry, regulation-length swimming lanes, a diving board, basketball hoop, and shaded seating areas. The project also includes updates to the pool entrance, bathhouse, and restroom facilities. These improvements are designed to better accommodate swim lessons, recreational swimming, lap swimming, swim meets, and families of all ages while improving inclusivity, accessibility and safety.

Note: A final design and construction bid will be needed, so pool features and amenities will be adjusted during the design process based on budget, engineering, and community needs. It’s feasible that some amenities will be alternatives.

How much will the project cost?

Initial estimates provided from an architect firm give a range of $4.3-6.4 million. The final cost will be based on selected final design and official contractor bids.

What will the tax implication of the bond cost?

The estimated bond impact is $6.77* per month based on a $100,000 home assessed value. This is after the state residential rollback.
*Subject to change based on debt structure interest rates, etc.

How will the project be funded?

The funding is a collaborative three-part strategy to raise $5 million. Each are achievable and important to successfully complete the project.

Bond - The City of Dike is backing a $1.5M bond to be voted on Nov. 3, 2026.
Grants - A committee is working to secure several local and state grant opportunities.
Private and corporate donations - Two $750,000 donations have kickstarted fundraising efforts. We’re actively seeking donations now; contact ImpactDikeFoundation@gmail.com for more information on making a tax-deductible donation/pledge.

How can I donate to the pool project? Will donors be recognized?

Note: Waves of Grain, a program where bushels of grain can be donated to support the pool project, is being developed. More information will be coming soon.

What happens if the bond does not pass in November?

If the bond doesn’t pass in the initial vote, fundraising efforts will continue and the vote will be placed on the November 2027 available ballot.

Will my donated money be returned if for some reason the pool isn’t built?

The agreement between the City, Pool Committee and Dike Impact Foundation states that if the project hasn’t been started by 12/31/28, and an extension hasn’t been agreed upon, money will be refunded to each donor.

Why donate toward the pool now before we know if the city bond vote passes and when don’t know what grants will be received?

It’s important to donate money toward the pool now – or make a pledge toward the project – so we can show that the project has momentum and local support. This is important when applying for grants; many require documenting significant donations toward the project goal before a grant will be awarded.

What is the desired timeline from fundraising to completion of the pool?

If the bond passes in November 2026, the goal will be for fundraising to progress through 2027 with the pool construction taking place in 2028. The timeline is subject to change based on the bond outcome, fundraising progress, final project design, and construction scheduling.

What is the plan to cover costs outside of upfront construction?

The city has budget allocated for maintaining the pool, and the pool committee has considered several initiatives to help with the cost of yearly operation and maintenance. A new modern facility will help the pool run more efficiently and need less repairs. Cost-saving initiatives include pass and daily entry pricing increased to be in line with similar community pools, pursuing volunteer opportunities (concessions, admissions, etc.), and additional fundraising dollars put into a fund to support ongoing maintenance.

Why should I pay for something I may not use?

Community amenities are essential to attracting families to move to and remain in Dike, which in turn supports property values, creates opportunities for youth, and contributes to the overall quality of life that makes our town a great place to live.

How can I support the pool project?

1) Vote YES! on Nov. 3 or get an absentee ballot and vote if you will be out of the area at that time

2) Make a financial donation to the pool. It will take many people making significant donations to raise the money anticipated to be needed for a new pool. Consider what’s possible for you and if your employer offers matching funds for this type of project.

3) Encourage your neighbors, friends and others to support the pool. Together, we can make this a reality.
